For such a small thing (about the size of a walnut,) the prostate sure gets a lot of press. The vaguely kidney-bean-shaped gland sits at the base of the male bladder and encircles the urethra, the tube that carries urine and semen out of the body.

September is Prostate Cancer Awareness Month, a time set aside each year to focus on the disease that is the second largest cancer killer of men in the United States. The good news, however, is that if prostate cancer is caught early, the five-year survival rate is almost 100 percent.

June is Men’s Health Month. But it’s not the only month men should do their health justice.
